ANOTHER DAY IN NAIJA

Shikena

You were in your Jigawa State, eating Tuwo Shinkafa...
A Facebook discussion on Egypt started by Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has yielded an unintended consequence: disclosures on the seamy side of the Olusegun Obasanjo presidency. One of the contributors to the thread was Senator Saminu Turaki, former governor of Jigawa State. The former governor said (late President) Yar’Adua was the best among those who became governors in 1999...claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had told him that Yar’Adua “was rated a little bit better than us,” before asking: “since when does policeman job includes chosen (sic) president? " Turaki was apparently referring to Nuhu Ribadu, the police officer who served as Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Ribadu, who investigated the governors of the era–Turaki inclusive– was speculated to have said that Yar’Adua was the least corrupt. Turaki followed up by saying it was Ribadu that chose Yar’Adua and foisted him on Obasanjo. Fani-Kayode replied that it was Obasanjo who wanted Yar’Adua at all costs. “I was there during our caucus meeting, when he first told us that Umaru was his choice. Every single person in that room opposed it vehemently, including Ribadu. At 4:09am, the shelling began. “You were elected in your little state somewhere in the dusty Northwest and apart from coming to the Villa (Presidential) to curry favour and gossip at night, you were not part of us at the federal level. And you were certainly not a member of the federal government or an official of the Villa whilst I served and worked (first as a spokesman to the President and then as a two-time minister) for four long years,” Fani-Kayode blasted. Fani-Kayode reminded Turaki that he was a member of the Economic Reform Team; “Whilst we were busy doing all these things as ‘appointees’ and whilst we were running this great country, you were in your Jigawa State, eating tuwo shinkafa and regularly travelling the nations of the world looking for so-called prospective investors… I was also working as an assistant and spokesman to the President so I really was a little bit too busy to be sniffing women’s underwear at the Villa late into the night with people like you, Andy Uba and James Ibori,”

As the saying goes...

A performing masquerade who tries too hard to outclass his colleagues may expose his anus.
